2014 KSAP Technology in Anesthesia Symposium (February 22, 2014)
2014 KSAP Technology in Anesthesia Symposium
In addition to their medical knowledge, doctors use pharmaceuticals and medical devices to provide medical care to patients. Although broad information on drugs have been provided to doctors during their education from medical school, education on medical devices have been relatively short. Due to such insufficient education of medical devices to medical students, trainees, and medical specialists, development of new medical device seems a long way off in Korea, one of the leading countries of IT environment.
In dire need of medical device–related education for doctors, “Physics and mathematics” committee has been formed within the society with the full support from the chairman of the Korean Society for Anesthetic Pharmacology (KSAP).
KSAP Physics and Mathematics Committee was organized to study methods to scientifically acquire and analyze a physical phenomenon that occurs during anesthesiologists’ treatment and research such as Heart rate variability (HRV), analysis of EEG (BIS), auditory signal (sound), blood pressure signal, photoplethysmogram, etc. Accordingly, such studies will be utilized to future treatment and research.
Selecting the most familiar phenomenon among the above physical signals, we have prepared this year’s meetings. The electrical signals are common in anesthesia practice and clinical research. Therefore, we selected EKG, EEG, and evoked potential in the view of traceability, uncertainty and standard reference. Also, we will prepare workshop for heart rate variability and electroencephalogram in August. We request the pleasure of your attendance. Also, we cordially request for your continuing interest and support for symposium and workshop that will be held in February and August every year.

2014 KSAP Symposium for Medical Physics and Mathematics
2014 The Korean Society for Anesthetic Pharmacology Symposium for Medical Physics and Mathematics Essentials of human physiology, Fundamental principles of monitoring medical device 8:50 - 16:20 on October 25 (Sat.), 2014 Venue: Room 320 and 418, Main building, Korea University College of Medicine
Greetings to you all, The Korean Society for Anesthetic Pharmacology would like to organize a symposium on medical devices at the College of Medicine, Korea University on October 25 for healthcare professionals and engineers that are interested in medical devices. This year"s symposium has an addition of a lecture on the Medical Physiology, which is essential for developing and using medical devices to make the event even more fruitful than last year"s. The lecture will mostly cover cardiovascular system, respiratory system, autonomic nervous system, body temperature control, brain perfusion, cognition and sleep and physiology of nerve roots. Undoubtedly, it will cater to the academic needs of healthcare professionals and engineers that are interested in the development of medical devices. This physiology lecture is Korea"s first-of-its-kind where insights on new equipment are amplified and academic understanding is deepened for multi-disciplinary experts for whom cooperation and collaboration are essential in developing medical devices. Along with the physiology lecture, experts in various fields that take a significant amount of interest in developing medical devices are invited to participate in four sessions. They will elaborate on and discuss ideas over new device development, specific methodologies and topics to be considered for them to be clinically applied. Session 1 will cover the measurement mechanism for pulse oximeters, and clinical test methodologies based on ISO 80601-2-61, the standard to assess its accuracy. Session 2 will introduce a methodology of using the information flow as a new approach to distinguish consciousness and unconsciousness, and a technical aspect to make the demand on medical site practicable. Session 3 will review the physical changes of robotic surgeries that have been recently spotlighted, and the status of robotic development in Korea. The last session will present methods to efficiently manage materials generated in clinical testing and cases of applying electronic case reports. Speakers with the basic knowledge on and development experiences with medical devices will deliver presentations while clinical physicians provide relevant knowledge and experiences. This will bring favorable synergies for the audience. If you are interested in the development of new medical devices and their proper usage, you are more than welcome to attend the symposium to listen to excellent lectures, share insights and engage in lively discussions. I sincerely ask for your active participation.
